"You have cancer" are the three words that no person wants to hear. It immediately brings to mind images of painful treatments, surgery and death. However, a lot of cancers are now very treatable. There is a lot that you can do to continue to get a good quality of life. These pointers should be of some assistance.

Doctors and the general public at large have long known that red wine can help fight against heart disease, but more people are now finding out that wine can also help work against contracting cancer. The polyphenols in wine (like those found in grapes) help to neutralize and eliminate dangerous free radicals.

Keep a telephone within an arm's reach of your bed. While you are undergoing cancer treatments, there may be times when you need immediate assistance. Having a phone close by will give you the opportunity to get help if you need it. This also makes it easy for you to call friends and family members to chat.

Use music to reduce stress and promote happiness. Listen to music that brings back happy memories and makes you feel good. Let your mind wander to these memories as a form of meditation to relax and rejuvenate you and take your mind off of your cancer treatment. Music can also be a great tool to inspire you to dance or exercise to keep you energized.

Stay informed throughout your treatment process if you are currently dealing with cancer. The worst thing you could do is ignore your treatment or fail to care. You want to know what you are taking, what therapy you are doing, and how these things are intended to help treat your disease.

Stay alert for any adverse side effects that may occur even after you have concluded your cancer treatment. After radiation treatment it is possible to develop memory problems, heart problems, infertility and other problems. Chemotherapy can cause lung disease, cataracts, early menopause and additional side effects. Be aware that these problems may develop and be prepared to contact your doctor.

Care for your skin during cancer treatment. Because many cancer treatments can cause changes in your skin, it is important to take good care of your skin. Use a gentle moisturizer and stay hydrated. Avoid hot showers and always wear sunscreen when outdoors. For more serious skin problems, talk to your doctor about possible treatments.

We all know that carrots are good for your eyesight, but this root vegetable is also essential in fighting against cancer. It's amazing how simple things from nature can help to prevent such a disease; and with the beta-carotene and falcarinol found in carrots, throat, stomach, lung, bladder and other types of cancers can be prevented.

As stated before, cancer causes many people to die. Cancer . But you can learn how to manage it and get past it with some of the above tips. Keep in mind that it's going to be a tough challenge, but with the right plan and motivation you can succeed!
